E-Glass Fiberglass Cloth

The glass almost every job is built from

When someone says "fiberglass cloth" without qualifying it, they mean E-glass. It is the standard electrical-grade glass that boats, boards, tanks and tooling have been laminated with for sixty years, it wets out predictably in polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy, and it costs a fraction of what the exotics cost. Unless you have a specific reason to reach for S-glass or carbon, this is the shelf you want.

Pick by weight first, weave second

Weight sets how much glass goes down per layer and how much resin it drinks. Weave sets how the cloth drapes and how the surface finishes.

• 3 to 4 oz is skin weight. Sheathing plywood, surfboards and paddleboards, cosmetic layers over foam, anywhere you want strength without a visible weave line.
• 6 to 7.5 oz is the general layup weight. Most repairs and most hulls live here, and 6 oz is the single most useful cloth in the catalog.
• 8.5 to 10 oz is structure. Multiple layers build real thickness fast, and the 2x2 twill drapes into compound curves that a plain weave fights.
• 18 to 40 oz is bulk. These build thickness in one pass on transoms, stringers and tooling, and they are not trying to look pretty.

Mill styles, not house numbers

Every cloth on this page carries its industry style number in the specifications, so you can match what an engineer, a repair manual or a plan set called out instead of guessing from ounces alone. We carry Style 120, 1522, 7532, 7533, 7544, 7500, 7725 and 7781. A 7781 from us is the same 8-harness satin construction as a 7781 from anywhere else.

How it ships

Cloth is cut to order from full rolls, rolled rather than folded so it arrives without crease marks, and the cut edges are taped so the weave does not fray in transit. Buy a single yard to test a weight, or take the whole roll.
