Tooling Gelcoat & Resin

The materials a fiberglass mold is built from. Orange or black tooling gelcoat goes on the plug first, unwaxed so the backup laminate bonds to it, in a color that shows thin spots while you spray. Isophthalic tooling resin backs it up: it shrinks less and holds up hotter than a standard layup resin, so the mold keeps its shape through a production run.
