Style 7544 two-end plain weave E-glass at 18 oz per square yard, 50 in wide. This is heavy structural cloth: one ply builds the thickness that three plies of 6 oz would take, which matters when you are laminating a transom or a hull section on the clock. It is woven, so unlike mat it carries real directional strength at 0 and 90 degrees.

  • Where it goes: transoms, stringers, hull sections, heavy structural repairs and reinforcement.
  • Build rate: 0.0207 in per ply.
  • Resin demand: roughly 1:1 resin to glass by weight, about 2.09 oz per square foot.
  • Resin compatibility: epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester.
  • Width: 50 in, cut from 1 yard up to a full roll.

Heavy cloth needs real rolling pressure to consolidate. Work a grooved roller through the whole ply and watch the edges, which is where dry spots hide.

Ideal For:

  • Hulls, stringers and transoms
  • Tooling molds for repeat production
  • Panel repair for RVs, trailers and off-road vehicles

What To Expect When You Order Fabric Rolls

Yes, epoxy resin is ideal for wetting out fiberglass cloth and other reinforcements like carbon fiber and Kevlar. It saturates the fabric well and cures into a strong, durable laminate.

Yes. With the right resin, fiberglass cloth bonds to wood, metal, foam, and cured fiberglass. Use epoxy for wood and metal, since it grips those substrates far better than polyester. Prep matters more than the cloth: sand to clean, bare material, remove all dust and oil, and wet out the surface before laying the cloth down.

The weight refers to ounces per square yard. Lighter cloth (e.g., 4oz) is more flexible and used for fine finishing; heavier cloth (e.g., 10oz) provides more strength and bulk.

Use sharp scissors or a rotary cutter on a clean surface. To reduce fraying, run masking tape along the cut line and cut through the middle of the tape, and handle cut edges gently. Keep the cloth dry before layup, since moisture on the glass weakens the resin bond.

Fiberglass cloth is used to reinforce composite materials in applications like boat building, surfboard repairs, auto bodywork, and structural laminates. It’s combined with resin to form a strong, lightweight composite.

Fiberglass cloth is woven for strength in specific directions, while chopped strand mat is made of randomly oriented fibers and is better for building bulk.
