Plain Weave Carbon Fiber

Flatter and tighter than twill

3K plain weave carbon in a 5.7 oz 50 inch wide fabric cut by the yard, plus plain weave tape in 5.7 oz 3K at 2 inch and 12.3 oz 12K at 3 inch, all in 1, 3 and 10 yard cuts.

Plain weave sits flatter and tighter than twill with a smaller repeat and less drape, so it suits flat panels, tubes and anywhere you want the weave to read fine rather than bold. It will fight you over a compound curve, which is where twill earns its keep. The tapes handle edges, seams and local reinforcement, and the 12K at 12.3 oz puts far more fiber down per pass than the 3K does.

Use 2x2 twill when you're working with curved surfaces or want a sleek, visible finish. Use plain weave for flat surfaces, structural reinforcement, or areas that will be painted or hidden.

The main difference is in the weave pattern and flexibility. Twill weave has a diagonal pattern (over 2, under 2), while plain weave has a tighter checkerboard pattern (over 1, under 1).
