Hybrid Fabrics
Where a hybrid earns its keep
Carbon Kevlar hybrids are for parts that get hit. The carbon carries stiffness, the aramid carries impact and abrasion, and the 2x2 twill weave gives the visible pattern people build show parts around. The 5.5 and 5.8 oz twills come 50 in wide in black with yellow, red, blue or orange aramid. The 4.8 oz plain weave is the lighter option, and 5.8 oz carbon Innegra trades some stiffness for damping.
Aramid does not cut or sand like glass. Use Kevlar shears on the fabric, plan the layup so cut edges land under another ply, and expect fuzzing at any exposed edge. For seams, pure Kevlar® tape and cloth come in 2, 3 and 6 in widths. For choosing a hybrid, the carbon Kevlar hybrid guide covers where each weave earns its place.
