Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, the catalyst that kicks every polyester and vinyl ester resin and gelcoat we sell. Dose it by percentage, not by eye. Getting it right is the difference between a laminate that cures on schedule and one that stays tacky or flashes off in the cup.

Standard dose: 1.25% by volume at 77 F, about 12 cc per quart or 47 cc (1.6 oz) per gallon of resin; gelcoat runs higher, about 2%. Gelcoat runs closer to 2 percent.
Pot life: 15 to 20 minutes at 80 F at the standard dose.
Temperature adjustment: use more in a cold shop and less in heat, staying between 1 and 2 percent for resin and 1.5 and 2.5 percent for gelcoat, and test-cure anything below 60 F before you commit a batch.
Mix at least two full minutes, and never catalyze a batch smaller than 1 oz of resin.
Never use MEKP with epoxy. Epoxy takes a matched amine hardener.

Eye protection is not optional with MEKP. Read the SDS before you open the bottle.

Can the gallon size of MEKP Hardener ship by UPS?

No. The gallon (8 lb) size of MEKP Hardener cannot ship by UPS. We can only send the gallon on a pallet by common carrier, so it must go with a pallet order. The smaller 2 oz through 32 oz bottles of MEKP ship by standard ground.
