Density, expansion and where it goes

Two part urethane pours as a liquid and expands in place into a closed cell foam. The 2 lb density is the flotation foam, light and buoyant, and it is what fills a hull cavity for flotation. The 4 lb density is denser and stiffer, for a void that also has to carry some load. Kits come in 2 quart and 2 gallon sizes.

Two mistakes get made here. Pouring into a sealed cavity, which builds enough pressure to distort a hull, so give it a vent and pour in layers. And pouring over wet or rotten wood, because the foam seals the water in and the rot keeps going. Dry the cavity, fix what is wet, then foam.

The foam only flows a few feet before it expands, so for long, narrow spaces, over 5 feet long or under 2 inches across, results vary and you should test first.
