1208 is the lighter sibling to 1708. Same +45 and -45 stitched construction and the same 3/4 oz chopped strand mat backer, but at 12 oz per square yard it drapes into a radius or a compound curve without bridging the way a 17 oz fabric will. Use it when you want biaxial strength on a shape that fights you.

Where it goes: curved hull sections, radiused stringer tabbing, panel repairs where a heavier biaxial would tent over the corner.
Resin compatibility: polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy.
Resin demand: roughly 1:1 resin to glass by weight, about 3.2 oz per square foot.
Build rate: 0.037 in per ply, so plan an extra ply versus 1708 for the same laminate thickness.
Width: 50 in, cut from 1 yard up to a full roll.

The mat side goes down against the substrate. It wets out fast, so mix resin in batches you can actually get down before it kicks.

What is 1208 Biaxial Fiberglass?

1208 is a stitched biaxial fabric: 12 oz per square yard of E-glass laid at plus and minus 45 degrees, stitched to a 3/4 oz per square foot chopped strand mat backer. It builds about 0.037 inch per ply, drapes into curves better than 1708, and works with polyester, vinyl ester and epoxy resin.

What’s the difference between 1208 and 1708 fiberglass?

1208 is lighter: about 19 oz per square yard in total (12 oz of plus and minus 45 degree glass plus the 3/4 oz mat) against about 24 oz for 1708. 1208 drapes into curves and compound shapes more easily, while 1708 builds more thickness and stiffness per ply, about 0.044 inch against 0.037 inch. Plan an extra ply of 1208 to match a 1708 laminate.
