5.5oz Carbon/Kevlar® Hybrid Fabric – 2×2 Twill Weave (Black/Orange)

This 5.5 oz carbon and Kevlar® hybrid is for parts that show their weave and also have to take a hit: guards, covers, panels and cosmetic skins. The warp is 3K carbon and the fill is Kevlar® aramid, woven as a balanced 2x2 twill, so a single ply pairs carbon stiffness with aramid impact and abrasion resistance, and the black and orange checkerboard shows crisp under a clear epoxy finish.

Laying it up

Run epoxy or vinyl ester and plan on about 50:50 resin to fabric by weight. Aramid takes up resin more slowly than carbon, so work it in and give the ply time before you bag it. The twill drapes over compound curves without bridging. Cut it with serrated aramid shears or a new rotary blade and leave every edge oversize, because frayed aramid is very hard to trim once cured.

Which length

Every cut is 50 in wide. A single yard covers a test panel or a small cover; 3, 5 and 10 yard rolls handle a run of parts; the 25 yard and full 100 yard rolls suit shops that lay this hybrid regularly.
