Carbon and aramid woven together in a plain weave, 4.8 oz/yd², with the yellow and black checkerboard that only a hybrid gives you. The carbon tow brings stiffness, the Kevlar® brings impact and abrasion toughness, so a panel that would crack and shatter in straight carbon dents and holds together instead. It is the fabric for paddle blades, kayak and canoe skins, guards and any show face that also takes hits.
- 4.8 oz/yd² carbon and Kevlar aramid hybrid, plain weave, 0/90
- About 0.010 in thick per ply
- Yellow and black checkerboard pattern
- Plan about 0.56 oz of mixed resin per square foot at roughly 1:1 by weight
- Use epoxy; polyester does not bond to aramid well enough for structural work
- Cut to 1, 3 and 10 yards, or take the full roll (100 yards)
Cut it with aramid shears. Regular scissors round over on the Kevlar and leave a fuzzy edge you cannot lay down clean.
