Pick the unidirectional tape when the load runs one way along the tape: spar and stringer caps, mast and boom stiffening, rudder and tiller reinforcement. Every fiber runs lengthwise, so one ply is stiffer along the run than either woven tape and has no strength across it. For a woven face or hoop strength on a tube, use the 5.7 oz 3K plain weave tape; for a heavy balanced band in both directions, the 12.3 oz 12K plain weave tape.
