Sierra 18-1976-2 MerCruiser V6/V8 2002 & Older Manifold Elbow

The water induction elbow that sits on top of the exhaust manifold is what keeps cooling water out of the engine. It is also the part that corrodes first, from the inside, where you cannot see it until a cylinder fills with water. On a saltwater boat it is an inspection item, not a lifetime part.

Replace the gasket whenever the elbow comes off, and check the manifold at the same time. They corrode on the same clock.
