Clean 'N Glaze is the maintenance step in Rexco's Formula Five mold care system. It is a mild buffing compound, deliberately not a cutting compound, so it polishes surface build-up, fine scratch marks and hazing off a production mold or plug without cutting into the finish, and leaves a hard, high gloss base for the release wax to key to. The same bottle pulls chalky oxidation off gel coat, which is why it lives on boats as often as it does in mold shops.

On a mold or plug

Start clean and dry. Strip heavy wax or silicone build-up first with Mold Cleaner #2.
Shake the bottle. Apply to about 1 sq yd (1 m2) at a time with a clean dry cloth or applicator pad.
Buff while it is still wet, by hand or with a power buffer, keeping the buffer moving the whole time.
Polish to a shine. Rinse any leftover haze off with water.
Wax with Formula Five Mold Release Wax and lay up. Reapply Clean 'N Glaze periodically and the mold stays trouble free.

On oxidized gel coat

Wash the surface first with detergent, or TSP where there is wax and oil build-up, rinse and let it dry. Work out of direct sun, 2 to 4 sq ft (0.25 to 0.5 m2) at a time, with a coin sized dab per square foot. Wet buff, turning the applicator often, until the surface polishes up dry and glossy. Heavily chalked gel coat may need 600 to 800 grit wet sanding first. A power buffer is faster but it can burn the surface or cut through an edge, so keep it moving and ease off on corners and hard lines.

Clean 'N Glaze contains silicone, so it leaves protection behind on gel coat, and it is the wrong product anywhere a repair, paint or bond is coming next. For heavy oxidation removal on a boat, compare Aqua Buff 2000. The rest of the mold shelf is in mold release agents.

Safety: harmful if swallowed and it enters the airways, so do not induce vomiting and get medical help. Use with ventilation and gloves. Clean up with soap and water.

Is Clean 'N Glaze a cutting compound?

No. Rexco builds it as a mild buffing compound precisely so it is safe on production molds and plugs. It takes out haze, fine scratch marks and build-up, not sanding scratches.

For heavily oxidized gel coat, wet sand with 600 to 800 grit or finer first, then use Clean 'N Glaze to bring the gloss back.
