Boat Drain Plugs

Transom, garboard and baitwell plugs

Three different fittings all get called a drain plug. The transom plug is the one you pull on the trailer, snap handle or T handle, sized to the drain tube it seats in. The garboard drain is the threaded fitting at the lowest point of the bilge, usually bronze or brass with a 1/2 in plug. Baitwell plugs are the small snap lock ones in 3/8, 1/2 and 5/8 in.

If the tube is chewed up, replace the tube instead of oversizing the plug. Sea Dog sells formed brass drain tubes for 1 in plugs, molded nylon motorwell tubes and a flare tool to roll the ends over. The Plugmate wrench fits both drain plugs and deck plates.
