Sierra 18-7879-1 Oil Filter

The oil filter for GM V-6 4.3L marine engines without a remote filter system, 3.46 in tall. Like the rest of the Sierra filter line it uses an epoxy coated heavy-wall steel canister and an anti-drainback valve, which is the feature that matters on a boat that sits between trips: the valve holds oil in the filter so the engine is not running dry on the first revolution.

Oil the gasket before you spin it on and tighten it by hand, not with a wrench. An over-torqued filter distorts the gasket and is a genuine problem to remove in a cramped sterndrive bay.
