Interlux Ultra-Kote Hard Antifouling Bottom Paint

Ultra-Kote is a high copper hard antifouling for water that fouls hard. A hard coating does not polish away like an ablative, so it holds up to scrubbing and to boats that run fast, and the high copper load is aimed at shell fouling like barnacles rather than just slime.

• Substrates: fiberglass, wood and properly primed steel.
• Coats: two coats, three on bare wood with the first coat thinned.
• Coverage: about 506 square feet per gallon.
• Dry times at 73 F: touch dry in 1 hour, launch in 8 hours, so a bottom job and a splash can happen the same day.
• Water: fresh, salt and brackish.
• Four colors: red, green, blue and black, in US gallon.

Hard paint means you are committing to scrubbing rather than sloughing. If you haul every season and pressure wash, that is a fair trade. If you leave it in for years, an ablative may serve you better.
