Every production mold picks up a film of old wax, silicone, grease and resin scum, and that film is what shows up later as dull parts, streaks and gel coat pre-release. Formula Five Mold Cleaner #2 is Rexco's ready-to-use solvent cleaner: it dissolves the build-up so it wipes off with a cotton cloth, with no abrasives and without softening or dulling a good mold surface.

How to use it

Work in a well ventilated area with solvent resistant gloves and eye protection.
Dampen a clean cotton cloth and wipe a section no larger than 5 sq ft (0.5 m2).
Wipe the dissolved residue off with a fresh cloth before the cleaner flashes dry, overlapping into the next section.
For heavy wax deposits, work the cleaner over the surface with a stiff solvent resistant bristle brush, then wipe. Repeat on stubborn build-up.
Tape test in several spots before you apply release. If the tape grabs hard, the surface is clean.

Mold Cleaner #2 is step one of the Formula Five mold care system. Polish the cleaned surface with Clean 'N Glaze, then build release coats with Formula Five Mold Release Wax or a PVA film. It also earns its place between pulls, cleaning one area of a mold before a semi-permanent release touch-up. The full shelf is in mold release agents.

Safety: toluene and methanol based, highly flammable, for industrial use only. Keep it away from heat, sparks and hot metal, wear organic vapor respiratory protection if ventilation is poor, and never return used cleaner to the can or re-dip a contaminated cloth. Lay solvent soaked rags out flat to dry before disposal.

What is the difference between Mold Cleaner #2 and Clean 'N Glaze?

Mold Cleaner #2 is a solvent. It dissolves wax, silicone, grease and resin scum so they wipe off, and it uses no abrasives at all.

Clean 'N Glaze is a mild buffing compound. It polishes out fine scratches and haze and leaves a glossy base for the release wax. On a mold with real build-up, clean with Mold Cleaner #2 first, glaze with Clean 'N Glaze, then wax.

Will it strip a cured semi-permanent mold release?

No. Rexco is specific about this: it is not designed to remove fully cured semi-permanent releases or cured resin.

What it does remove is excess semi-permanent release before it fully cures, light resin scumming, and the wax, silicone and grease build-up underneath.

Can this ship by air, or to Alaska and Hawaii?

No. Mold Cleaner #2 is a Class 3 flammable liquid (UN1993, packing group II) with a flash point below 0 F, so it moves by UPS Ground within the lower 48 states only.
