Genuine Kevlar® 49 aramid in a Style 285 four-harness satin weave, 5 oz per square yard. The 4HS construction drapes over compound curves far better than a plain weave, which is why this is the cloth of choice for canoe and kayak hulls, abrasion skins and anywhere a hull takes hits from rocks and ramps.
- Where it goes: canoe and kayak hulls, abrasion-resistant outer skins, impact layers, protective overlays on glass or carbon laminates.
- Strength: 650 lb/in tensile in both warp and fill, dry, at 0.010 in per ply.
- Resin: epoxy. Aramid wets out slower than glass, so work resin in and check for dry fiber before it gels.
- Resin demand: roughly 50:50 resin to fiber by weight, about 0.58 oz per square foot.
- Widths: 38 in and 60 in.
Cut with aramid shears. Glass shears will fuzz the edge instead of cutting it, and aramid does not sand clean after cure.
