Matching metal to the job

Pick the metal for where it lives. Stainless and bronze hold up to salt and sun. Brass and nickel plated hardware is fine for interior or light duty. Galvanized hooks are the working option that eventually rusts at the spring, which is where they go first. Anything carrying real load should be stainless or bronze.

Sizes here are the ones that get used: shackles and thimbles in 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 in, quick links in 1/4 and 5/16 in, brass and bronze boat snaps from 2-1/8 in up to 4-1/2 in, and eye to eye swivels in 3/16, 1/4 and 5/16 in. The Wichard LyfSafe jackline kit is the safety item, an 11 m run for a tether.
