Gear lube, grease, and trim fluid
Three fluids keep an outboard or sterndrive alive. Lower unit gear lube (Sierra full synthetic, Quicksilver High Performance SAE 90, Mercury 85W-90 Racing) comes out with the water at every service interval. Power trim and steering fluid tops off the trim pump. Marine grease goes on splines, wheel bearings and every zerk on the boat and trailer.
Buy the pump with the lube. The Quicksilver 91-8M0072133 and Mercury 91-8M0072135 pumps thread into the quart bottles and fill the gearcase from the lower drain plug, which is how you push the air out instead of trapping it. Grease comes in 3 oz and 14 oz cartridges and 8 oz squeeze tubes, so match the format to your grease gun.
