Position count and terminal count
Buy by position and terminal count, not by looks. A 3 position, 3 terminal switch (off, run, start) swaps in like for like. A 4 position, 4 terminal switch adds a position, and wiring one into a 3 terminal harness leaves you guessing at the extra lead. Sea Dog offers poly and brass bodies; Sierra lists the MP41030 3 position and MP41040 4 position.
The kill switch is a separate circuit. Emergency cut-off switches such as the Sierra UN42000 push button and MP40970-1 two wire kill the ignition when the lanyard pulls, and the lanyard wears out long before the switch does, which is why Sea Dog, Sierra and T-H Marine sell replacements on their own.
