Size the box to the group
Battery boxes are sized by BCI group, not by amp hours. Attwood small and large boxes and the strap-and-hardware boxes cover Group 24 and 27. T-H Marine trays are listed by inside dimension (10-5/8 by 7 inch for a 24, 13 by 7 inch for a 31). Moeller 4D, 8D and GC2 dual 6-volt boxes handle the big banks.
Measure the battery, not the label. Two Group 27 batteries from different makers can differ by half an inch, and an 8D low box at 11.50 inch tall will not close over a tall-post battery. If the battery already sits in a tray, an Attwood adjustable hold-down or a 40 inch strap keeps it from moving in a chop.
