Size the fender to the boat
Fenders are sized to the boat, not to the dock. The cylindrical line runs by diameter and length: Taylor Made Super Gard at 5.5 by 20 up to 8.5 by 26 inches, Big B at 8 by 20 through 12 by 34, Polyform HTM to 10.5 by 27. Diameter goes up with freeboard and displacement, and a low freeboard bass boat takes the flat fender.
One word covers two products here. Trailer fenders (Tie Down galvanized metal in 8, 12 and 13 inch tire sizes, CE Smith bracket kits) are sheet metal over a tire, not the fenders that hang over the side. Check which one a listing means, and note pontoons use rail mounted guards.
