Fumed silica is the additive that makes resin stay where you put it. A small amount takes a mixed batch from liquid to peanut butter, so a fillet holds its radius on a vertical seam and a gap-filling bond does not run out of the joint before it kicks. It is the most common thickener on any composites bench.

• One gallon of fumed silica powder
• Mixes into epoxy, polyester or vinyl ester
• Builds viscosity and stops sag on vertical and overhead work
• Holds other fillers in suspension so a blend does not separate
• Add it last, after the resin and hardener are fully mixed

Add it slowly. Fumed silica is extremely light and it will go airborne if you dump it in, so fold it in with a stick and wear a respirator while you do it.
